There’s a myth out there about hiring an Online Business Manager (OBM), and I’d like to bust that myth for you today in my latest blog!

The Myth: Your OBM works for you (and there lies the problem).

The Truth: Your OBM doesn’t actually work for you – they work with you.

An OBM is more than a team or staff member or a contracted Virtual Assistant (VA), they are an individual entity who becomes your business partner and manager, and in effect, part of the bones of your business.

And that’s the keyword … a manager. An OBM can manage the day-to-day business operations and any projects, events or team tasks you need, well, managed too!

What you can work with an Online Business Manager on:

If you’re wondering what an OBM could help you with, take a look at this list, and then think about all the areas of your business that you are personally working on and what you would delegate to a business partner if you had one.

  • Developing a marketing plan to grow your business
  • Managing social media and other marketing initiatives
  • Recruiting and hiring key team members
  • Coordinating team and team tasks
  • Tracking your financials and insights plus data management
  • Managing an important project or presentation
  • Executing your business plan and goals
  • Creating systems, processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs), plus document management
  • Scheduling and managing appointments

Any task or project where you can offload the management component would be left in the capable hands of an OBM with the view to allowing you more time to do the things you love in your business.

An Online Business Manager will work for your business if you…

Think about your business and if you had a business partner, someone to strategise with to grow the business. If you’re ready to grow to the next level, here’s when hiring an Online Business Manager (OBM) will work for you.

  • You are an established small business woman with a big dream and vision.
  • You have the right team who genuinely cares about your business.
  • You are ready to let others manage your business.
  • You are not a control freak or a micro-manager.
  • You want more time to work ON your business rather than IN it.
  • You are suffering in your personal life because your business is eating into time with your loved ones.
  • You know you need help, but want someone with experience who can become part of your team to drive your business forward.

An Online Business Manager won’t work for your business if…

However, there are some circumstances where hiring an Online Business Manager (OBM) isn’t the right move.  For example, if you:

  • Have only just started out in business, are a freelancer or contracted temp, or you really don’t know if you have a business or a hobby.
  • Like working on your own and having no plans to delegate to or hire any help.
  • Are holding yourself back from taking the leap you know you need for growth.
  • Are concerned about the fees an OBM would charge you and you can’t see the value they would bring to your business.
  • You want complete control of your business.
  • You are happy working in your business and doing everything yourself (freelancers and contractors, this might be you! Not everyone wants to grow a business and that’s OK!).
